This was my 2016 summer intern project at Johnson & Johnson Global Strategic Design Office. The project goals are 1. improving new employee's overall satisfaction of on-boarding experience and 2. establishing a digital platform that enables employees to transfer smoothly to their new roles.
We launched the Voice of Employee sketching exercise to better understand employee's needs at work in order to gather data within limited time frame and jointly produce a mutually valued outcome. We invited employees from Johnson & Johnson 4 major operation sites, Asia, Europe and US, to sketch out their previous on-boarding experience and ideal employee landing page for the 1st day, 1st year and 5th year of their career in Johnson & Johnson. Below are examples of the exercise.
After collecting the sketches of Voice of Employee, our team carefully read and broke down each employee's sketch into doing/feeling/thinking and integrated their experience into a generalized journey map which pointed us to two gaps to be bridged. Also, I counted the repeated common themes in all landing page sketches and ranked those themes by number of times mentioned. Those themes were then categorized under four major buckets: Employee(personal), Connection(interpersonal), Project and Information.
